That woman is a mother
That woman is a wife

That woman is a daughter
That woman fears for life

It's a man who does the beating
It's a man who makes them scared
It's a man who is the coward
But the woman must be spared

So why aren't we listening?
Why do we shut our eyes?
Why don't we see the bruises?
Why don't we hear the cries?

'Cause that man is our father
That man is our son
That man is really two men
And one has come undone

Let's reach out to men and women
Let's help them break the mold
To help one helps the other
Let's get their stories told

Keep asking gentle questions
Keep searching for the signs
To remain blind and silent
Makes us party to the crimes

Offer help and shelter
Point the way to hope
Soothe the bruised and battered
With us, they learn to cope

We have to be the leaders
Their strengths have been subdued
The cost to us so little
To have their lives renewed.
